Friday Fiction as I promised. Have you read previous posts? Start with 100 Words Horror Story.
You will remember the night you had sneaked out after dinner, tiptoeing so Mama would not hear you leave, diving into Obinna’s arms when you saw him metres away from the bamboo gate shielding the house. You had led him to your tree, it was your tree after all. You’d seen the first set of aligning stars under it and that night, you couldn’t wait to show him. So you led him to the Udala tree. It was quite easy to miss it as it was in the midst of other trees but you knew it, you knew it too well. It was your getaway from the family, from everything – a safe haven.
He told you how much he liked the tree and the cool night time breeze coursing underneath it. You had both laid down on the ground, gazing at the stars and he said he had never seen a prettier sight, except the girl beside him. He had touched you in ways that left you tenderized. Time passed by, you sneaked back into the house, with his promise to see you the following week as he had to read for exams. Floated on love’s wings you had.
An errand at night the following day led you to your tree and there you had found Obinna the only cockroach in your cupboard and Adaora your best friend, cuddling and giggling to Lord-knows-what underneath the Udala tree.
