Relax, I am here to the rescue with trendy top swimwear designs your wardrobe needs. I might not be much of the swimmer but I do look forward to days I get to swim particularly the relaxing effect of the water and of course, photos that come after of the swimsuit. Who can relate?

Did you know swimming was discouraged in the Middle Age and there was no need for swimwear at all then? Swimsuits in recent times have shifted from the traditional body suit to two pieces and even women sexy bikini. Swimwear over the years have seen different designs and been made from different materials. Throwing on a kimono is a fashion trend commonly seen at the beach side or the pool now. Which type of bikini should you go for you wonder? Whichever you’re comfortable with. Being confident about your body makes it really easy to wear almost any kind of swimsuit. Some swimsuit designs to select from include:

Two Piece Bandeaus

There is a difference between a bandeau and a normal bikini. Two piece bikini come in two pieces, the upper piece and the bottoms. Bandeaus bottoms are designed to be more flattering for the legs. If you’ve got great legs, why not flaunt it? The strapless high cut bandeau made of chinlon with padded bra would look good for a beach day. The material is elastic, provides support and the bandeau is wire free.

One Shoulder Bikinis

So you’re not a fan of off-shoulder bikini or the bandeau bikini but still want to show off your arms? The one shoulder bikini would be great. The one shoulder bikini set is made of spandex and completely wire free. You can choose different bikini colors and even mix them up.

An off shoulder bikini comes with the popular off shoulder cut and bikini bottoms. With the sudden trend and how great off-shoulder looks, this bikini is a must have for your wardrobe. It gives comfort and provides the extra sass you’d need at the poolside. Paired with sandals, you’re good to go.

Traditional One Piece

I probably speak for myself and other millennials in saying we grew up knowing this type of swimwear. My first swimming classes had me clad in this type of swimwear. They come in the straight design you have to step into and different colours. Other swimwear designs are regarded as non-traditional. Modern day traditional one piece swimsuits now come in different cuts and some with catchy captions.

Crop Top Bikinis

Crop top bikinis basically have cuts that give room for the waist, navel and midriff to show, somewhat like a crop top. The wire-free padded bralette string bikini made of nylon and spandex comes with a scoop collar and strings to be tied by the sides. It is chic and a must have for your wardrobe.

Casual Zaful Dresses To Slay In Under 30 Dollars

Dresses are an essential I always say a girl should have in her wardrobe. Asides the fact that they’re comfortable and chic, depending on the style and design, dresses are perfect for all occasions. I picked five casual Zaful dresses to slay in under 30 dollars which is equivalent to about N10,000 in Nigeria. Now I am fan of t-shirts and jeans but when I am not rocking caption tees, a dress is my go to option. Some casual dresses for women can be rather expensive but you do not have to break a bank to wear cute dresses. There is a wide variety of retro dresses and zaful floral dresses here. The best part is Zaful ships for free when you order from their site.

Striped Lace Up Cami Mini Dress

The color and strap design of this dress has me in love. The strap is adjustable for your comfort and the lace up details adds a little bit of extra sauce. It is made of polyester and it being a mini dress makes it possible to wear as a short dress or pair with leggings/stockings or any other type of trousers.

stripped lace cami dress

Polka Dot Mini Cami Dress

Similar to the Cami dress but this dress has fixed straps. It is equally as comfortable. The polka dot design makes it even more attractive, especially if you’re a fan of bright colors. I would throw on a denim jacket and wear white sneakers for a super casual and cool kid look. Another way to style is with black heels and a purse.

Embroidered Tassel Tunic Dress

This dress screams vintage and casual. It is a straight dress with round-neck collar line for comfort. The tassels and embroidery design makes it super stylish and it can go from a Friday work outfit to an outfit for any casual event. For extra details, make use of a belt.

Bell Sleeved Mini Bodycon Dress

A bodycon dress is the perfect clothing essential to bring out the body curves. This dress is made of spandex and sports a Vneck collar line as well as bell sleeves which is a trend from 2017. It can be worn for both casual and formal events. Pair with heels with a purse and you’re good to go.

Smocked Overlap Off Shoulder Asymmetrical Dress

This ankle length dress features the offshoulder design and I particularly like the flowery pattern. There is a slit in front which overlap in front and create a design that shows off legs. It goes for all occasions depending on how you style it. Style with a pair of heels and you can even wear it to church.

Tall Girl Issues | Musings About Being 5’9

I met my blogger friend and school mate Ifeoma of The Ifeoma Effect for the first time ever earlier this morning and she had to correct me at first that her name was Ifeoma, not Ifoma like I pronounced, reminding me of how terrible I am with Igbo names. I can spell well but pronouncing? Still needs work.

“But you’re tall o!” She declared.
All I could do was smile. That wasn’t the first time someone had said that and I doubt it’d be the last. I am of the opinion that majority think they are taller than people they are yet to meet until they actually meet.

Here goes some remarks from people and my musings about being 5’9 which I personally don’t regard as tall but just average.

“You should be a model.”

Hahahaha. Yeah right. I doubt I can even manage my shape except with serious determination. If I’m getting paid to be in shape though, that is a different thing entirely. Do you know how hard it is to be a model? I for one have friends that have to diet and work out strictly just for the job.

Musings About Being 5'9

“Do you play basketball? You should play basketball.”

Err. No time really. I used to play back in senior secondary school but university and other interests occupy the little free time I get.

Also, basketball requires skills, being fast and not just height, I have seen girls shorter than me play basketball and I was wowed.

“You are trying o. How would your boyfriend cope?”

I don’t understand why people say this. Some think it’d be hard for him to carry me or something. The tallest girl in the world is wayyyy taller than her boyfriend and they’ve been together for so long. And when I meet cute guys I am taller than? Lawwwd why.

Height really isn’t important in a relationship. Although, I can’t get with someone rather shorter than I am. About my height or taller than me will be just fine.

Shopping for shoes.

Although tall girls are supposed to wear shoes with large sizes, I wear a size 40 which is not that large. Just that I never find some shoes I like in my size. And when it comes to heels? Hahaha. It is so annoying. Guys don’t like having tall girls wear heels and now become taller than them. And no! Low heels won’t do. Why wear heels when it’s not elevating you and making you strut?

Getting the right jeans.

Now this is quite annoying sometimes. I could get the right length of trousers and the waist is big or get the right waist size and the jeans stops inches above my ankle. Then I have to roll it up and turn it into three-quarters jeans proper.

“Dammy slow down!”

When walking with people shorter than me, I have to take short strides or they practically get left behind and have to tell me to slow down. I am taller than all my best friends too. Hugging shorter people? I always have to stoop.

Whether you’re 6ft+ or 5 or even 4, it can be fun being tall or short. Anyway, that’s the musing I have for today. Share your tall and short people woes or story in the comment box. I’d love to know what your best and embarassing moments are.

Victorian Type of Shoes

Hi readers!
Long time no post. So sorry I’ve been away from the blog for a while. School and life have been quite tasking. Thought I’d share this post about Victorian type of shoes. The Victorian Era occurred years ago but when is fashion never evergreen? Some of these terms might seem old-fashioned but trust me, looking them up will have you more enlightened.

Notable for their black lace-up style, pointed toe and uniquely beveled heel, the Victorian-era boot has transitioned into modern-day fashion movements. Arguably the first heeled shoe to be widely accepted, the heel common on Victorian boots was the predecessor of today’s pump. Now, the Victorian boot has found a new home in a number of popular fashion trends and can command a pretty penny as a versatile member of any fine wardrobe.

Portrait of a Beautiful Victorian Lady

Taking a cue from science fiction, the steampunk fashion trend merges vintage beauty and technology into one refined look filled with sass. Victorian boots certainly have relevance in Victo fashion trend, offering both a vintage elegance and a hardware aesthetic. The jet black eyelets and sturdy laces typical of Victorian boots draw on the technical component of the style. A pair of these boots, whether short or tall, can really cap off a steampunk look and take it to the next level.

The World of Anime Fashion
Anime has introduced a number of fashion trends and subcultures that are captivating many young people. Some of these fashion trends could get plenty of use from unique look of the Victorian boots, such as the Lolita and mori girl looks.

The Lolita fashion subculture basically takes a nod from both Edwardian and Victorian style. With variations on the overall look from Gothic to whimsical, the Lolita style gives a nod to many popular styles sported by European aristocrats. So whether it’s the harder or softer side of Lolita fashion, Victorian boots can be truly invaluable footwear when trying to pull off the ultimate Lolita look.

While not an immediate inclusion in the mori girl look, the Victorian boot adds such a lovely organic angle to provide a beautiful contrast to the lace and layers typical of this anime-inspired sub-fashion. Also known as forest girl, mori girl is somewhere between boho meets forest nymph. Floral patterns and oversized pieces cascade in softness on women sporting mori girl looks. So while they are not as intrinsic to this fashion trend as they are to lolita, the beautiful colors and angles of modern Victorian-inspired boots can be paired with soft floral and cream lace for a dramatic statement.

Victorian Women Shoes

And, Witches Too
Victorian boots which is another Victorian type of shoes iconically look like witch shoes. In today’s creative fashion subcultures and borderline-obsessive cosplay trends, Victorian boots may be just what’s needed to accomplish the perfect likeness of a favorite character. Today, the look of yesteryear has gained new momentum as the fashion-forward look to Victorian boots for the perfect final touch to their look du jour.

Which of these Victorian type of shoes would you rock? Did you notice some of the shoes trending now look similar to some of these Victorian type of shoes? Flats and heels, which is your favorite? Let us talk below. The best part of posting here is getting your feedback and comments. What are your thoughts about this post?

Body Insecurities x Ankara Cape Dress

ankara cape dress

ankara cape dress

Hi readers!
How are you today? Fine I hope. One of the things I had in mind to work on this year is self-confidence and being more personal on the blog. Confession: I used to be somewhat insecure about my body. Surprised? Don’t be. There should be more to blogging right? Dealing with body insecurities is something a lot of teenagers and even adults go through.

Prior to Senior Secondary school, I was slightly a tomboy and it had an effect on how I saw myself as a female. I had friends with curves and all the feminine thing going on while I was just there. Some might call me a late bloomer but yes, I am one. At this present day, I still have slight insecurity about the way my legs look. I am 5’9 and my legs are long. My legs have been called all sort of names which make me hide them behind jeans. Don’t get me wrong, I do love myself but it’s okay to feel insecure once in while. I have also learned that we can’t all be perfect. Some people look up to billboard models and stars with perfect bodies but some of them confess to living a strict life and pushing themselves hard just to stay perfect.

But nature doesn’t make us all in the same size, shape, same nose type, hair color, bum size, beard type, muscularity and all which leaves some people wanting to be like someone else. People give advice about accepting yourself for who you are but it is easier said than done really. It is however possible to change some things about yourself. One thing I’ve learned is most of the insecurities come from our mind and the moment you tell yourself what’s right to think about yourself, you start to act like it.

I used to hate my height, feel conscious about my bust size, cry about my flat bum, used to be terribly shy and didn’t like my smile at all but right now? I adore my body! Heard of ladies who hate their stretch marks. Like why? Most importantly, the body isn’t all there is to a person, what about personality? What about intelligence? What about good habits? What about a good hustle? There is so much to love about yourself. And the major one, not letting other people’s say about your body affect you.

Being an undergraduate in a school with a lot of fine, sexy and smart girls, I have been compared so many times that I laugh at people’s ignorance now. Some girls cover up with makeup but if you have noticed, I don’t exactly wear makeup except there’s a need to. Love my face bare and I see no reason why anyone should feel unhappy with how their real face looks like. Every person has a unique thing about them and that is what makes them what they are. In summary, your body is yours and the temple of God. You and only you have a say on how you see it.

Now to today’s outfit, I have on the offshoulder ankara cape dress from The Brand Honey. It is available for order in all sizes. A cape is a sleeveless outer garment that is being attached to a cloth bodice which drapes the wearer’s back arms and chest. Capes have been on the fashion scene since the nineteenth century though it has had periodic returns. Capes are of different designs and they are a captivating piece.

I am not exactly one to follow fashion trends as I wear what I want whenever I want to. This is my first outfit with a cape and guess who chose the style? My mum! She knows how much I love offshoulder outfits. I styled this Ankara cape dress from The Brand Honey with studded open toe wedge (I still hate heels. Read why here) from Atmosphere and my glasses case came handy as a purse because why not? My sister’s pearl drop earrings completed the look. Just ignore my hair lol. This Ankara cape dress is perfect for any Owanbe and Sunday service slaying.

Personality we admire: Olofin Ifeoluwa

Hi readers!
Eid mubarak to muslims all over the world. Hope you had a wonderful Sallah break? I sure did. Been a while I put up Personality We Admire column. It basically gives an insight into people we admire. Check out these previous posts here, here and here for other posts. Currently admiring Olofin Ifeoluwa.

Instagram happens to be one of my favorite applications at the moment and possibly for a long time to come. I have met so many awesome people through Instagram that I find quite indispensable. Stylist Olofin Ifeoluwa happens to be one of them. I have been following him for a while before I met him in person at a model casting in school. I recognised him at once and just had to talk to him. Funny enough, he was also following me and even knew some things about me already.

We share the same love for fashion even though his love is greater. Trust me, this gentleman has books about fashion. We were supposed to have a style collaboration earlier this year but he can be quite the busy person. However here we are! A corporate themed style shoot. I had so much fun at the shoot even though we had to move about for perfect location. An awesome professional photographer friend of ours, Kareem Ifeoluwa aka Ife Rex (@ife_rex) shot us. He’s simply one of the best photographers ever.

He is a magician! Ifeoluwa can make you look fabulous with stuffs you didn’t even know you had in your wardrobe. He has on a shirt, waistcoat and trousers with vintage shoes while I have on this white offshoulder ‘dress’ which I made by revamping my lab coat. The lab coat had been lying in my wardrobe for over two years since I stopped practicals in 100 level. I was staring at it and got inspired.

I cut off the long arms and used them for sleeves which I sewed on to the body of the coat. Then I used elastic and sewed on a button to close the space left by the neckline of the lab coat. He was so surprised when I told him what I did. Lol he thought it was a designer dress. Styled the dress with a black belt and Atmosphere flat shoes.

What makes him admirable?
1. He’s hardworking! You should see him carrying bags full of clothes while working. Ifeoluwa can go from one styling job to another without having any break. He has styled some of the biggest people in Ibadan and Lagos. Check out his page (@itsbillsj) for more of his work. He styled the models at Mr Ideal Nigeria, Unibadan Fashion Week and a couple of other events.
2. He’s passionate about his job. Ifeoluwa lives and breathes fashion. His normal day look is always a statement. He once joked about how some of his coursemates eagerly wait everyday to see what he would wear to class. We also share the same love for retro fashion. His recommended glasses look like something out of 80s movie.
3. He’s understanding and a good friend. He can be as candid as I am and really honest too, very good natured and funny too.
4. He’s starting a blog soon! I’m so excited about this one. Finally he would be able to project his style to the world. He believes he should do more of styling other people but I do tell him he should run a blog too.

I will recommend him anyday to do a wonderful job. If you have questions regarding his work, want him to style you or for collaborations; kindly follow him on Instagram and send a direct message. He would be glad to talk to you. He is indeed admirable.

Easy and Stylish Ways To Wear A Shift Dress

Hi dear readers!
How are you today? Good I hope. Currently revering my last days as an eighteen year old, birthday in less than a month. Any tips or advice you might want to share with a girl? Starting to understand the whole concept of being an adult. Long time no style post? Haha sharing today easy and stylish ways to wear a shift dress. Check out this recent post on how to make your own clothes as a fashion blogger, talked about how I made a shift dress.

What’s the big deal with shift dress? Well, shift dress is pretty simple, classy and flattering depending on the style of the dress. Shift dress originated from way back in the 1920s. The shift dress then symbolized independence, comfort over looks. However, Hubert Givenchy is said to be the originator of the shift dress. He made some for fashion icons of the sixties and fifties including Jacqueline Kennedy. Like how cool is that? Salute!

Shift dress with heels

A pair of heels is perfect with most dresses so the shift dress isn’t an exception. Styled it here with my black and red Nine West heels. A pop of color makes an outfit look classy. Well, the dress seems sort of short, not to me anyway but if you’re not comfortable with how short your shift dress is, you can wear stockings. That would create a different look too. If you’re 5’9 or above, you’d understand the struggle of finding clothes that are your perfect size but I actually wanted this one like this. Legs for days? *winks*

Easy and Stylish Ways To Wear A Shift Dress

Shift dress and a skirt

Another way to style a shift dress is wearing it with a skirt. Check out how I styled my shift dress with a black knee-length skirt. Just tuck your dress in the skirt and you’re good to go. This can pass for a corporate look. Depending on the type of skirt worn, it could come out as another dress or a casual look.

Shift dress and jeans

If you happen to be a lover of high waist jeans as I am, then you can style your shift dress with a pair of jeans. If you’re opting for a very casual look, this is perfect. You can throw on a jacket too. The jacket could be short or long. My Crocodile coat came to play here. From sleeveless to covered up in a jiffy. You could wear a denim jacket on your shift dress too.

Styling A Blue Off Shoulder Dinner Dress

Perhaps if we were Cinderella,

we’d leave the ball with both slippers.

Hi readers!
We are gradually slipping into the rainy season here in Ibadan, Nigeria and words can’t describe how much I love the rain. Once upon a time I used to be young and dancing in the rain was wonderful. Maybe words can *getting inspiration for a poem*

How are you doing today? The strike is still ongoing in my university, for about 6 weeks now. Lord help us in this country!

Listened to a radio program in a cab this morning on which an elderly male called in and gave “turning back to God” as a solution for this country’s problems. One of the passengers in the cab then commented “Who’s going to lead us back? Our leaders?”. I was going to comment but then I thought about it. He was actually right. Each person would just have to do their share of prayers till the country gets better.

What’s with the quote above? Sometimes I post my musings on my Snapchat story and Smallee wrote that line for my poem. It was about standing out and being different. I really like the line and did feel like Cinderella at the ball in this dress. ?

styling A Blue Off Shoulder dinner dress

Off With The Shoulder

So I wore this blue off-shoulder gown to church and a luncheon on Sunday. Made by a famous designer? Nope! Tailor made? Yes. Kindly shoot me a mail if you’d like one. It’s made of satin and available in different colors.

offshoulder dinner gown

high low waterfall dress
Inappropriate for church you think? I adjusted the neckline. I’m loving the off-shoulder style trend a lot. It’s so cool having females confident enough to bare their neckline.

Although I’ve seen some pictures in which the style was overdone and parts of the body which were not supposed to show were visible. Some ladies can like to overdo things. My neckline looks like I need more food I know. I swear I don’t! ? And this pixie bob hairstyle seems to be trending also. I didn’t even intend to follow the trend.

What trend are you loving now? Guys and wide hats? Girls and denim? Vintage? Comment below ?
