Arts ‘n’ Chill

Hi lovelies!
Sorry for the break in posting. Schoolwork has been a bit hectic these days. And what better way to chill than with art?

Arts n Chill

I found out about Arts ‘n’ Chill three weeks ago when the first edition for this semester took place in the school. I was unhappy I didn’t see the details on the Instagram page @artsnchill earlier.

What is Arts ‘n’ Chill you might wonder. It’s basically a forum which started in the University of Ibadan a while back in which art enthusiasts (photographers, writers, poets and other form of artists) hang out, drink palmwine and talk about a topic voted on.

The topic for the ‘chill’ I attended was Arts and Patterns. We had to share our opinion on three questions.
1. Can arts be taught?
2. Can creativity be taught?
3. Does formal education influence creativity and do people with formal education have more creativity than those who don’t?

I think arts can be taught. But only if the person being taught is ready to learn. Stated the example of my fine art class in junior secondary school in which my art teacher had issues with some students who couldn’t even draw an orange.

The real problem was their indifference towards fine art. Some would say it’s not like they’d work with it or it’d have an impact on their lives. I had a music teacher too who tried really hard to increase our interest in the subject. I got the best student in music in the class but I really can’t remember what I was taught then including how to play the recorder, basically because I didn’t exactly like music as a subject. Although I do love music.

However for creativity, I think it’s inborn. It requires a push or a situation to bring it out. There are different forms of creativity, part of which could be original or not. The latter being a situation whereby someone’s creative idea is mutated into someone else’s idea.

Creativity can be influenced I think. I could be a fashion designer but could see something I like in basket craft and decide to incorporate it with fashion design.

I really don’t have a say on formal education influencing creativity. There could be cases in which a person with no education could be better than someone who has a talent in it. The difference would be sort of obvious.

I did enjoy Arts ‘n’ Chill. If you happen to be in Ibadan, do stop by. It holds very three weeks. You could start something similar in your school too.
What is your opinion on the questions?

And for your reading pleasure, here’s a poem from my coffee themed challenge. I appreciate you ❤

You were coffee
   Bitter sweet
  And I
    I was sugar
  The supposed sturdy cube
   But easy to melt
You were coffee
   Buzzed and caffeinated
  Dark and unsweetened
   Coffee needed sugar
  A little of me
   To make you better
  But no
You stayed brewing in the teacup
    And then cooled
     Remained black and bitter
